Bike and Kayak Combo - Thanks to my honey!

This afternoon we dropped my bike off at the Franklin end of the bike trail, then drove to Oil City and launched the kayaks from the Oil City marina.

We had hoped for a peaceful float down the river back to Franklin; the river, however, was very sluggish and we ended up "getting our workout" as we paddled the whole way. Towards the end we were getting nervous that it might get dark before we made it!

We did OK though and once we got back to Franklin I hopped on my bike and rode back up to Oil City to retrieve the truck while Paula stayed with the kayaks.

It took us 2.5 hours to kayak from Oil City to Franklin, and took me 30 minutes to bike from Franklin to Oil City. Interesting.

Thanks to my honey for thinking of this, and for letting me have a bike ride!

If you're just getting into "serious" biking (on any level, really) there are some things you can do to improve your "cycling score". Your cycling score is a combination of: 1. How far you can ride 2. How fast you can ride 3. How comfortably you can ride All three of these characteristics are a reflection of how efficiently you ride. When you ride, you want to be able to stay on the bike as much as possible - up hill, down hill, on the flats, and around the curves. In order to do this you want to be efficient at shifting gears, assuming an appropriate riding position, and anticipating conditions. In order to ride longer, you want to appropriately condition yourself for endurance. In order to ride comfortably, you have to have the right clothing and accessories. First Ride of the Season

Took the bikes to Goddard State Park on May 3rd. Rode the entire 12 mile loop. The weather was perfect, lots of birds, the scenery on the trail was amazing. I noticed it has been exactly one year since I posted on this blog! Time flies. Franklin is now Trail Town certified, and so is our guest house. Looking forward to a great season! Hopefully I can keep up better with my posts this year!

160329 - First Ride on the Trail This Year

Today my wife and I visited the Allegheny River Trail today. My wife is not as "speedy" as I am (ha ha) so we rode 5 miles down the trail together, and then she rested while I did a 2.5 mile "power ride." So, by the time we rode 5 miles together, and I rode 2.5 miles and back solo, and then we did the 5 mile return trip, I got my 15 miles in, and got a little bit of a workout at least. Thanks to my wife for "indulging" me.
